About the Regenerative Vet

Founded in 2022, The Regenerative Vet is a veterinary practice offering a whole farm approach to livestock health and welfare. From landscape design to the drivers of disease pressure on your farm – Claire offers a different way of thinking and understanding your farm as an ecosystem and the huge benefits that diversity and nature can provide for livestock health. As a practising clinical farm vet for the past 11 years, Claire has a deep understanding and knowledge of different livestock systems. Working as far as possible with the most up-to-date research alongside your own observations and understanding of your own business, she will endeavour to find the most suitable options to suit your individual farm context.

A changing physical and economic climate requires resilient farms with resilient livestock and minimal interventions. An understanding that less chemical or other inputs can lead to increased profit and more resilient businesses.

When we start to see our farms as ecosystems: a biological community of interacting organisms with their physical environment, it allows us to see their full potential. From the people, the livestock,  the wildlife, the plants and the soils and the processes that underpin them – the mineral cycle, solar energy, the water cycle and community interactions. Understanding these and working with them can maximise your profitability.

The Regenerative Vet Limited offers a different model to traditional veterinary practice that is independent and free from commercial bias, often working alongside your own vets to understand the current system on your farm and the bottlenecks within it. A veterinary practice whose sole aim is to become redundant – because healthy livestock really shouldn’t require veterinary intervention when they form part of a functioning ecosystem.

The idea for the Regenerative Vet was born at a farm kitchen table in the heart of the Lake District in 2020. A discussion about a veterinary model that didn’t sell medicines but sold time and expertise with a deep knowledge of regenerative principles and the foundations of livestock health and welfare.

Testimonials

  • Here at Phepson Angus we are committed to resilient cows that don’t need intervention. Exposure to stressors is an important part of that. Claire helped us to map out how we can justify our non-intervention approach while still maintaining the highest welfare standards.

  • Claire Whittle is brilliant. She’s worked with us both one-on-one and with our farmer groups and every time she brings a ton of knowledge, loads of energy and a really grounded practical approach. Whether she’s talking about livestock health, trees and hedges, dung beetles (which she somehow makes fascinating!) or the bigger picture of farm ecology – she just gets it. She’s easy to work with, totally passionate about what she does and genuinely makes a difference. Farmers come away from her sessions buzzing with ideas and feeling like they’ve actually got a plan.
